What can you see in the Rembrandt exhibition?
His etchings and drawings are part of his technical and expressive development, showing how he works with line, light and shadow on paper.
According to the ”la Caixa” Foundation presentation, it brings together 75 works: 68 prints, 1 copper plate and 6 drawings. The curator is Olenka Horbatsch, assistant keeper of Dutch, Flemish and German prints and drawings at the British Museum, which collaborates on the exhibition.
The 6 sections of the exhibition
- Self-portraits: includes “Self-portrait leaning on a stone sill” (1639).
- Portraits: priests, merchants and doctors whom the artist knew personally.
- The women in Rembrandt’s life: his wife, Saskia van Uylenburgh, appears frequently in his work.
- Drawing from life: a section devoted to studying the body.
- Landscape and nature: includes “The Three Trees” (1643).
- Bible stories: biblical scenes within the journey through his prints.
Resources for looking at the prints
The exhibition presentation describes 3 tactile tables and 4 British Museum videos, and offers an audioguide on request. CaixaForum’s listing also includes easy-read, large-print and Braille dossiers; check these resources when preparing your visit.
