Flemish choreographer Ben Van Cauwenbergh, a former principal dancer alongside Rudolf Nureyev at English National Ballet, created this Swan Lake while director of the Aalto Ballet Essen, returning the famous work to its essence: tradition as a living language. True to the spirit of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, his version combines classical aesthetics with a light nod to contemporary dance.
