Uxó Castle crowns a 400-metre hill above Vall de Uxó, beside the Espadán range. It is a 10th-century fortress of which ruined walls and towers remain, with views over the valley and the plain.
History
The Islamic castle guarded the valley and the route into Espadán. After the conquest it passed under Christian rule and was abandoned over time, while the town grew below, on the plain. From the hill you can see the valley, the plain and the Espadán line.
What to see
The climb is a walk with height gain and no services. Wear walking shoes and bring water. Pair with the church of the Asunción and the Archaeology Museum, in the town centre.
