Cerro de Agras
Extinct 527 metre volcano with visible bombs, climbed on the 4 km volcanic route from Cofrentes.
The Cerro de Agras is an extinct volcano of 527 metres above Cofrentes, the only recent volcanic site in the Valencia Region. Its slopes keep visible volcanic bombs and a crater trace, with views over the Júcar and Cabriel valleys, on the road from Venta del Moro.
The volcanic route
The PR-CV 379 Ruta Volcánica, promoted by the Cofrentes town hall with positive quality control, visits the hill in 4.0 km, 1 hour 15 minutes and 190 metres of ascent, starting at Calle del Castillo in Cofrentes. It is an easy family walk of about 2 hours with stops.
Gas and ground
The volcano still breathes through CO2 and methane emissions that feed the Hervideros spring below: keep to the marked trail and the crater trace, and do not pick at the bombs or the ground. You get there by car on the N-330 with the bridge access. Spring to autumn is the season; carry water, because the dark slope warms early.
