Charco de las Fuentes
The largest pool at Los Charcos de Quesa, a wide basin of the Grande river 1 km from the car park, with bathing allowed and pine woods around.
Charco de las Fuentes is the largest pool at Los Charcos, about 7 km from Quesa. The site holds four named natural pools (Horteta, Fuentes, Bañera and Chorro), of different sizes and depths, formed in a narrows of the Grande river, also called the Cuevas river. The town council allows bathing in all of them. The municipality lies inside the Natura 2000 network as a special protection area for birds, and the access runs through pines.
Access
You drive to the recreational-area car park, with about 20 spaces, and from there a flat 1 km walk through pines, around 20 minutes on foot. In high season and on holidays there are toilets by the car park, a small picnic area at the entrance and a 2 euro charge per vehicle. There is no public transport to the pools: the options are the car or walking from Quesa along the PR-204 route.
What to do and notices
Bathing is allowed, but there is no lifeguard: get in carefully, with no jumps from the rocks, and watch children because the depth changes from pool to pool. Summer weekends get crowded, so arrive early and on a weekday if you can. From the site the PRCV-203 footpath leaves for the rock paintings of the Abrigo de Voro, and there is a via ferrata only for equipped people with experience.
