Outside Simat de la Valldigna, the Xara mosque served the deserted Morisco village of la Xara, abandoned after the 1609 expulsion. It keeps a horseshoe-arch door, the mihrab, the qibla wall and the ablutions well.

History

The mosque prayed for a village that emptied in 1609 and never recovered. Later used as a rural hermitage, it survives as one of the few readable mosques of the Valencian countryside.
