Mola de Segart
Millstone-shaped sandstone summit of 565 m at the edge of the Calderona, with a 1971 orientation table. Logged loop: 4.42 miles, 1155 ft.
The Mola de Segart is a millstone-shaped sandstone summit of 565 m at the southern edge of the Serra Calderona, above the village of Segart. Its flat top carries an orientation table naming the visible peaks, plus a geodetic vertex, and the views run from the coast across the inland ridges to Espadán and Peñagolosa on clear days. A logged loop from the village runs 4.42 miles with 1,155 ft of climbing, topping out at 1,854 ft, in just under 3 hours, with a final rocky channel that needs hands and care.
The climb
The circuit leaves Segart, rings the Mola to the east and tackles a small gorge known as La Canal to gain the summit, then descends by tracks on the far side back to the village. The lower slopes mix open ground with wooded stretches, and the top is bare rock with a wide panorama. It is a half-day walk, not a viewpoint drive: every metre is earned on foot, which suits a morning outing from Sagunt paired with its castle.
Getting there
Drive to Segart, about 30 km from València; a car is needed, as no public transport serves the village for walking. Park in the village and follow the signed paths uphill; trailhead signage is uneven, so carry the track.
Tips
- Go from autumn to spring; the open slopes give no shade in summer.
- Wear boots with grip for La Canal's rocky steps.
- Start early: the loop rewards clear morning air for the long views.
