On the hillside near the centre of Altea, the Bellaguarda tower is one of two coastal watchtowers of the town declared an asset of cultural interest. It belonged to the defence line that watched this stretch of the Mediterranean against raids.
History
The tower guarded the bay together with the Galera tower on the road toward Calp. Both are listed heritage and mark the points from which the coast was watched.
What to see
The tower is viewed from outside, as part of a walk through the upper streets. It pairs with the old quarter of El Fornet and the Consuelo church at the top.
