What to see in l'Alcora
Alcora, about 69 km from Valencia, is the capital of the Alcalatén and the earthenware town: here the Count of Aranda founded the Royal Factory in 1727. With 10,664 residents, it joins the historic core with the hills of the castle that names the district.
The Ceramics Museum tells the earthenware story from the Royal Factory to today and is the Valencian reference for the genre. Beside it, the church of the Asunción, late-Gothic and BIC, shows its star vaulting and 15th-19th-century works. On the hills, Alcalatén Castle, from the 10th-13th centuries, names the district. The late-Romanesque BIC Salvador hermitage and the August Cristo del Calvario complete the local calendar. The town joins earthenware with festivity: the Cristo del Calvario fills August and the museum rooms explain the Royal Factory. The old centre is walked on foot among museum, parish church and squares, and the castle asks for a separate outing, with walking shoes.
