Frequently asked questions
How do you get to Ontinyent from València?
By car you stay on the A-7 almost the whole way, and it runs right past the town; taking the Ontinyent exit, it's a little over an hour. By public transport there's a direct ALSA bus from València's main bus station (around two hours) and Renfe's regional service on the Xàtiva-Alcoi line.
Is the train to Ontinyent running right now?
Not exactly. The Xàtiva-Alcoi line is closed for renovation works until late 2026. In the meantime Renfe runs a train from València Nord to Xàtiva and connects there with a bus to Ontinyent. In Ontinyent the bus stop isn't the station but the roundabout by the Ontinyent II health centre, so check the timetable and pick-up point before you set off.
How long does València to Ontinyent take?
By car, around an hour. By direct bus, about two hours. By train plus the bus connection during the works, count on roughly two hours too, depending on the connection.
What is there to see in Ontinyent?
The old town, the Barri de la Vila, with narrow streets above the Clariano river, the Pont Vell bridge and the Santa María bell tower, one of the tallest in the Valencian Community. The Santa María parish church, the Palau de la Vila and chapels such as Santa Ana and Sant Esteve round out the visit.
Is Ontinyent worth a day trip with kids?
Yes, it makes for a relaxed day trip: the old town is walkable, there are viewpoints over the ravine, and if you're around in August you'll catch the Moors and Christians festival. Go by car if you can, since public transport is slow.
