History
The castle began as a late-12th-century Almohad fortress guarding the Costera passage. After the Christian conquest it lost its military role, and the town grew down the slope, leaving the upper enclosure in ruins. The visit needs about three quarters of an hour with the climb.

The battlemented towers and the Torre de Coloms, with views over Mogente and the Costera. Below stands the church of San Pedro (1880-1889); the Iberian Bastida needs a separate drive.
