Región — Ribera Alta (a ~50 min de València)

A large reservoir on the Júcar rebuilt after the 1982 flood, with broad water for sailing and fishing by the new dam.

Open in Google Maps

The Tous reservoir holds back the Júcar, fed by the Escalona, in the municipality of Tous, in the Ribera Alta district. The current dam is the rebuild raised after the 1982 flood, which destroyed the previous dam. Today it is one of the largest sheets of water in the province, with sailing and fishing as its usual uses.

The visit

The dam area can be visited and there are tracks for strolling by the water, though there are no verified parking coordinates. It is a half-day outing to look at the engineering and walk the shore, rather than a mountain trail. Bring binoculars if you like birds, as the water gathers coots and grebes.

Tips for your visit

There is no record of authorised bathing areas, so do not count on swimming. Respect the dam fences and signs, as it is a restricted area. The trip pairs well with Navarrés and the Escalona reservoir, another nearby reservoir.
