Fuente de los 50 Caños
A monumental 50-spout fountain by the Palancia, with tables, shade and the crest of each province on every spout.
The Fuente de los 50 Caños stands by Segorbe, capital of the Alto Palancia, at the edge of the Sopeña walk and the Palancia river. It is a monumental fountain with 50 spouts, and each spout carries the crest of a province of Spain. Around it there are tables and benches, a restaurant and plenty of shade, so it works as the go-to picnic ground of the town. You arrive by car from València in just under an hour, and a typical visit lasts an hour and a half.
The setting
From the fountain walks leave with views over the Palancia valley and the Espadán range, among pines and the scent of the hills. The high walk reaches the castle hill, or Sopeña, a short round for walking and views. Segorbe supplies the rest of the day: Estrella castle, walls, medieval aqueduct and museums.
Visit notices
This is an ornamental fountain, not a bathing spot: bathing is not envisaged, so do not use it as a pool. The spout water belongs to the fountain system, with no guarantee for uncontrolled drinking: bring your own water if you walk. Respect the tables and leave no litter: this is the picnic ground the locals use.
