The Playeta de Chelva is a natural pool on the Tuéjar river, set along the Chelva Water Route, the circular trail that starts at the Plaza Mayor and follows the river past mills, irrigation channels and tunnels. Here the water forms a wide, calm backwater used as a swimming spot every summer.
The route
The Water Route is 7.5 km long and takes about 2:45 h, with low difficulty and a profile suited to families. From the Plaza Mayor the path drops to the Molino Puerto recreation area, by the Molino Puerto recreation area (listed as closed by Chelva tourism; check access before going), and from there the trail follows the bank across footbridges to La Playeta. Further on the path crosses the Olinches pass, a water channel cut into the rock, reaches Olinches dam, and returns by the Casa de la Luz, the old power station that once lit the village.
Swimming
La Playeta The Playeta appears in the official census of inland bathing zones.. The Tuéjar runs lower in late summer, so the pool is at its best between June and August. Wear shoes with grip on wet stone and arrive early in the morning, as the site fills up at weekends. The visit pairs well with the Tuéjar river source, a few kilometres upstream.
