Pantano de Relleu
17th-century dam gorge on the Amadorio with a plank walkway on the cliff, two viewpoints and a 9.5 km circular mule-path route.
The Pantano de Relleu is a 17th-century dam gorge on the Amadorio river. The walk leaves Relleu past the river and an old lime kiln to the old dam, now dry, and continues through the gorge on a walkway of wooden planks fixed to the cliff wall, with the Mirador del Pantano and the Mirador de Cristal on the way.
The route
The guide describes a 9.5 km circular route of about 3 hours 30 minutes with 290 m of ascent, graded as moderate along paved and unpaved trail with green-and-white marking. After the dam visit the route follows a dry riverbed back toward the village past old irrigation ponds, weirs and ditches.
Fees and safety
The walkway charges a small entrance fee and includes a safety helmet, which you must wear; dogs are not allowed on the walkways. The plank path crosses above the riverbed (length and height unconfirmed in the guide consulted), so wear hiking shoes and keep children close. The start and the municipal car park sit on Carrer Everist Manero Molla in the village, with no public transport information. Combine the day with Guadalest and its reservoir nearby.
