El Penyó de Vallada
A detached 649 m crag above Vallada, with a summit viewpoint over the village and the La Costera corridor.
The Penyó de Vallada is a detached 649-metre crag rising above the village of Vallada, on the Serra Grossa. Its summit works as a natural viewpoint over the town and the La Costera corridor, with the farmed plain spread at its feet. The rock stands apart from the range, with the village spread right below, and from the top you can follow the La Costera corridor in both directions.
The ascent
The usual starts leave from the hermitages area and climb Serra Grossa paths to the foot of the crag. Access is not fully signposted, so carry a downloaded track and ask in the village about path conditions. The final climb needs grippy footwear because of loose rock.
Tips for your visit
Avoid the midday hours in summer, as the rock throws back the heat and there is no shade on top. The trip pairs well with a stop in Xàtiva, a short drive away. You can only get there by car, and you should be down before dark, as the descent over rocks gets awkward at night.
