Salto del Monstruo (Cascada del Monstruo)
60 metre fall into the Júcar canyon by a rough castle path; the basin allows a dip, not a swim.
The Salto del Monstruo, also described as the Salto de Millares in swim guides, is a fall of 60 metres or more into the Júcar canyon near Millares, in the Canal de Navarrés. It is reached by a rough hillside path past castle ruins, starting in Millares village on the Barranco del Nacimiento trail variants; the Quesa pools, about 10 km off, are one for another day.
Hard path, no swimming
The last section is rough and keeps numbers down; even locals reportedly avoid it. The basin at the foot is tiny and shallow, good for a dip only and not a swim spot, so plan the visit as a viewpoint walk. Wear boots with grip, carry water and do not attempt the descent after rain or in storm risk.
Season and access
Spring and autumn are the seasons; avoid the summer heat and the storms. It is a hard walk with no published reference duration, not suited to small children, reached by car. Tell someone your plan before starting, because the canyon has patchy cover and few passers-by.
