What to see in Aras de los Olmos
Aras de los Olmos, about 82 km from València, is a Serranía village in the Alto Turia with about 400 residents. Its dark skies have made it a stop of Alto Turia star tourism.
The 16th-century Ángeles church mixes Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque sgraffito. The 10th-11th century Cortijo tower, of Taifa origin, now houses a small museum. Outside the village, the 17th-century Santa Catalina chapel, with its 1728 hostelry and five-spout fountain, is a local-interest monument.
The village is walked on foot between church, tower and houses, and the Santa Catalina chapel is a short drive out. The area adds dark skies for stargazing: if you stay overnight, the Alto Turia is star country.
