The medieval core of Culla keeps its plan of stone lanes running down from the castle along the slope. It is a village of about 500 residents, in the Alto Maestrazgo, which joined the Spanish Pueblos Bonitos association in 2020.
The village
The stone houses follow the slope, with arched doorways and iron balconies. The old centre reads as one long balcony over the ravines and farmsteads of the Maestrazgo.
What to see
Walk up from the village entrance to the castle and walls, passing the square and the church. The walk is short but steep, so wear comfortable shoes.
