Alquería Castle is the remains of the rural fortress of the Mijares valley, by Montanejos. It is described as nearly gone: traces of walls remain, plus a tower declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in the town centre.
History
The fortress guarded the farmstead and the Mijares crossing in Islamic and medieval times. The village later grew as a spa town around the Fuente de los Baños, the natural draw of the municipality.
What to see
Look for the castle traces in the Alquería and the BIC tower in the town centre, seen from outside. The visit is short and pairs with the river walk and the Fuente de los Baños.
