Charcas del Ral (Remanso de Ral)
Wide, calm Júcar reach below the Cortes gorge, on the Cofrentes to Cortes de Pallás river cruise (1:30 h sailing). Stable, dammed water between rock walls.
The Charcas del Ral is a wide, calm reach of the Júcar below the Cortes gorge, in Cortes de Pallás, crossed by the river cruise from Cofrentes. The Júcar, runs here dammed and stable between the vertical walls of the Cañones, so the water lies flat and green. This is a landscape to watch from the boat, not a beach: there is no verified road access to the pool itself.
The cruise
The Cofrentes Turismo Activo cruise sails up the river from Cofrentes to Cortes de Pallás aboard a modern boat, in a trip of about an hour and a half. Cofrentes sits at the meeting of the Júcar and Cabriel rivers, under its castle and beside the Cerro de Agras volcano, the only recent volcanic site in the Valencia Region, 527 metres high. The sailing passes the great rock faces of the Cañones del Júcar, the village best-known attraction, with the Embarcaderos reservoir nearby.
Tips
- See the reach from the cruise in season: with no verified road access, the boat is the way in.
- Book ahead in summer and arrive early at the Cofrentes jetty; the 60 seats fill on weekends.
- Bring sun cover and a jacket: the gorge gives shade and wind even on hot days.
- Pair it with the Júcar canyons viewpoints or the Chirel castle viewpoint, above the same waters.
