Vuelta de la Hoz del Palancia
Meander of the Palancia that cut a rock amphitheatre below Jérica castle. Riverside walk with picnic area, mill channel and climbing walls.
At La Vuelta de la Hoz the Palancia river bends into a closed meander that has eroded the mountain wall into a deep gorge, just below the castle crag of Jérica. The regional tourism board lists it among its recommended visits: a riverside walk with picnic areas, climbing routes with views, and the keep watching from above.
The walk
The trail starts at the Los Chorradores weir, where a small waterfall forms on rainy days and can be seen from the path. It then follows the old irrigation channel that once fed the mill, through narrow stretches lined with climbing walls, with the rock faces of Peña Tajada closing the view. A rest area invites a picnic stop, with the ruins of the second mill and the castle keep above. The route ends at the Puente de Navarza, beside the old Molino de la Morería, from where you can return, stop at the Fuente de la Gota, or carry on into Jérica.
Tips
- Roll out a picnic at the rest area and let the walk take its time: this is a stroll, not a summit.
- Climbing routes are for equipped climbers only; walkers keep to the riverside path.
- After rain the weir waterfall runs and the river edge turns slippery, so wear grip shoes.
- Combine it with the Salto de la Novia or the Fuente de los 50 Caños, both a short drive away.
