Albaida, historic capital of the Vall d'Albaida, sits about 71 km from Valencia around its walled old town. The Palace of the Milà y Aragó, built between 1471 and 1477 over 13th-century walls, holds Baroque frescoes by Bertomeu Albert and the International Puppet Museum, opened in December 1997 with a festival every December.

The town is also the home of painter Josep Segrelles: his house-museum, built from 1940, keeps over 150 original works and an 11,000-volume library. Next to the palace, the Asunción church (1592-1621) shows Segrelles oils on the high altar and a Gothic silver Vera Cruz, while the local bell-ringers keep the traditional manual ringing.

Half a day covers palace, puppet museum, Segrelles house and parish church on foot in the walled old town, the classic Albaida day trip. The town suits museum lovers: two single-art museums plus palace frescoes and Gothic silver in one compact walk.
