Alcira, about 36 km from València on the Júcar, is the capital of the Ribera Alta. With some 48,000 residents (2025), it keeps the La Vila old town, the island city the Arabs called Al-Yazira, with 9th and 10th century walls and a historic-artistic listing.

The walk joins the La Vila walls, the Casa Consistorial (1547-1603, national monument, with the 1380 Aureum Opus), the church of Santa Catalina (13th century, 1692 Baroque portal) and the Cruz Cubierta on the old road, tied to Jaume I. Above, the Lluch sanctuary (1927-1966) faces the town from the Muntanyeta.

The Alcira Fallas rank among the oldest on record, with the Dosel commission active since 1907. The Murta valley, by the town, holds the ruined Jeronimo monastery, on foot only.

The visit needs a whole day: La Vila in the morning, with walls, town hall and Santa Catalina, and Lluch at sunset to see the island from above.
