What to see in Canals
Canals, about 59 km from València in the Costera, is the birthplace of Pope Calixtus III and a stop on the Ruta dels Borja. With some 13,700 residents (2025), its visit turns around the Borja family house.
The complex joins the 12th-century tower, Muslim and restored in the nineties, with the primitive Gothic oratory of the 1200s and its Last Judgment panel by the Mestre de Borbotó. The 17th-century church of San Antonio, with a Churrigueresque interior, is the centre parish.
The September Fira brings the Nit de les Albaes singing tradition. The plan fits a morning and pairs with nearby Xàtiva.
The visit needs a morning: Borja tower and oratory in the family complex, with the Last Judgment panel, and 17th-century San Antonio in the centre. The afternoon allows nearby Xàtiva, minutes away, to follow the Ruta dels Borja. In September the Fira brings the Nit de les Albaes. The visit is done on foot.
