The Carrascar de la Font Roja is a 2298 hectare nature park between Alcoi and Ibi, in l'Alcoià, and one of the best conserved holm oak forests in Valencian territory. At the heart of the area stand the sanctuary, the visitor centre and the camping area, with ascent routes through shade and forest.
What to do
The routes climb through the holm oak to the high ground, with moderate gradients for a day of about 4 hours. Autumn colours the forest and spring fills it with flowers: the two best times. Autumn weekends fill up, so arrive early. You get there by car from Alcoi, beside Bocairent.
Facilities
The visitor centre advises on the route of the day and the park allows camping in its marked zone. Bring water and mountain footwear, respect the rules of the protected area and carry your litter out. Check the day's notices at the centre before choosing a route.
