History
The Muslim castle passed to the Crown of Aragon in the 13th century after the conquest of the area. It kept military value for centuries through its position between the kingdoms of Valencia and Castile, on the Vinalopó route.
What to see
The highlights are the keep and the rooms with Almohad ribbed vaults, among the first raised with this technique. From the enclosure there are views over the old town, the olive groves and the Fontanella range.
