Above Cocentaina, capital of El Comtat, rises its castle, a Gothic military fortress from the 13th and 14th centuries. Its square tower, of 13.5 metres per side, commands the valleys opening out below.

History

The castle went up after the Christian conquest as the fortified residence of the town's lords. Its Gothic fabric, designed for defence and residence, has stayed the landmark of the town skyline.
