What to see in Ademuz
Ademuz, about 102 km from València, is the capital of the Rincón de Ademuz, the Valencian exclave between Cuenca and Teruel. About 1,000 people live by the Turia, between riverside orchards and the upper quarter of stone-and-timber houses.
Ademuz castle crowns the hill and originates the walled enclosure of the town. At the entrance to the village waits the Huerta chapel, a 14th-century Gothic chapel and the oldest standing building in town. By the castle, the ruins of the Santa Bárbara chapel link to the local Santa Cruz rites.
The visit needs half a day: the Huerta at the entrance, the stone-and-timber upper quarter, and the castle climb with the Turia orchards below. The Rincón roads are winding and call for a slow loop, by car and unhurried.
Local tip
Start at the Huerta at the entrance, climb through the upper quarter to the castle and walk back through the orchards. The Rincón roads suit a slow driving loop, by car and unhurried.
