Sendero del río Bohílgues
A riverside trail from Ademuz along the Bohílgues, past pools, cascades and standing flour mills, with river and cliff birds.
The Bohílgues river trail starts in Ademuz and follows the water on an out-and-back route. The Bohílgues is a tributary of the Turia that rises in Puebla de San Miguel and crosses Vallanca before reaching Ademuz, and the route runs past pools, cascades and riverside vegetation. The trailhead is at the bridge by the Molino de la Villa-Fuente Vieja: cross the bridge and turn left, where a small waterfall and the white and yellow PR marks appear. You get there by car from València, about two hours on the road, and a typical visit lasts around 4 hours.
Mills and birds
The path passes flour mills that are still standing, several dated to the Muslim period, a reminder of the farming use of water in this corner. Over the stream you can see golden orioles, blue rock thrushes and grey wagtails, and on the cliffs griffon vultures and short-toed snake eagles. The best season runs from spring to autumn, with autumn bringing the most birds.
Visit notices
Bathing in the pools is mentioned by visitor guides, but there is no official confirmation, so ask in the village before swimming and do not assume it is allowed. Wear shoes with grip because the stones in the riverbed are slippery, and bring water and a cap: there is no public transport to the trailhead, so a car is needed. The route is not circular, so plan the return along the same path and do not run out of daylight.
