Paseo fluvial del Ebrón – Presa de Torrebaja
Calm Ebrón reach at the Torrebaja weir, with poplars and a recreation area on the right bank. The river runs 21 km from Tormón to the Turia.
The Ebrón riverside at the Torrebaja weir is the calmest Valencian stretch of a river that runs 21 km from Tormón, in Teruel, through Castielfabib and Torrebaja to meet the Turia at Las Ajuntas. Fed by the Albarracín aquifer, the Ebrón keeps a regular, generous flow, and its banks carry the riverside flora that suits gentle walks. At the weir a bridge crosses the river and a recreation area sits on the right bank, a green stop on the valley floor.
The walk
This is flat valley-floor walking between stepped orchards, not a gorge: the course here runs deep between banks lined with walnuts and hackberries that already surprised the botanist Cavanilles in 1797. Torrebaja once held two flour mills on this river, and Castielfabib three more, some dating to the 13th century. The stroll suits families and slow afternoons, with the weir, the bridge and the recreation ground as the natural turning points.
Tips
- Do not confuse this reach with the Estrechos del Ebrón: that signed 11 km gorge trail lies upstream in Teruel, between Tormón and El Cuervo, not here.
- There is no long waymarked loop at the weir itself, so plan a short out-and-back stroll.
- You need a car: Torrebaja sits on the N-330 past Ademuz, far from any rail line.
- Pair it with the Bohilgues river trail, the signed riverside route of the neighbouring valley.
