Paseo fluvial del Cabriel – Casas del Río
Linear 10.5 km walk (2:45 h) along the Cabriel from the 18th-century river noria to the hamlet of Caballeros. Bathing and rest area at the start.
The Cabriel riverside walk starts in Casas del Río, the only inhabited village inside the Hoces del Cabriel natural park, founded in the 15th century on the river bank. Beside the start stands its great river noria, built in the mid-18th century and the only working one in the Valencian Community: the current drives the wheel and lifts water to the vegetable plots. The same spot holds a bathing and rest area, so the route begins with a swim.
The route
The official Green Route runs 10.5 km one way (2:45 h for walkers) up the left bank of the Cabriel, on a track parallel to the channel, with medium difficulty and suitability for mountain bikes. The landscape is riverside woodland all the way to the hamlet of Casas de Caballeros, a viewpoint in itself. This stretch is prized by trout fishers and holds one of the few intensive fishing preserves of the region. As a linear route, you either walk back the same 10.5 km or arrange a second car.
Tips
- Start early and swim first: the bathing area is at the noria, at kilometre zero.
- Carry water and sun cover: the track is open in long sections and the outing reaches 5 hours return.
- Respect the fishing preserve rules if you carry a rod.
- Pair it with the Hoces del Cabriel routes or a stop in Requena, the municipality the hamlet belongs to.
