What to see in Cofrentes
Cofrentes, about 65 km from València, stands where the Cabriel meets the Júcar, in the Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora. With some 1,100 residents (2025), it joins a frontier castle, churches and a spa between two rivers.
Above, the castle guards the meeting rivers with keep and parade ground. Below, the 1621 church of San José is the main church under the rock, and the 17th-century Soledad hermitage marks Calvario street. The working Hervideros spa is the historic Valencian thermal station.
The plan climbs to the castle in the morning and drops to the spa in the afternoon. The volcano and the Júcar gorges, by the town, are a nature chapter.
The visit needs a whole day: castle in the morning, with keep and bailey above both rivers, town with San José and Soledad at midday and Hervideros spa in the afternoon. The volcano and the Júcar gorges need another trip.
