Next to Mola castle, above Novelda, rises the Santa María Magdalena sanctuary, a modernist work built between 1918 and 1946 by José Sala Sala. Its reddish-stone silhouette commands the valley.
History
The sanctuary went up in the first half of the 20th century on devotional impulse, with a modernist design of organic forms. Work ran from 1918 to 1946.
What to see
The stone facade with its twisted towers and the single-chapel interior. From the terrace there are broad views over Novelda and the Vinalopó, with the castle metres away and the valley below.
