What to see in Ayora
Ayora, about 74 km from València, is the capital of the Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora, on the edge with Castilla-La Mancha. With some 5,300 residents (2025), it is a frontier town with a castle, two Gothic parishes and honey and carnival traditions.
Above, the Infantado castle-palace crowns the hill, with the Gothic church of Santa María at its foot and its panel linked to Yáñez de la Almedina. Below, the 16th-century church of the Asunción completes the two parishes. About 10 km south, the rock-cut Castellar de Meca needs a car and a good hour.
The plan joins hill and plain in a morning, with the 1892 modernist Lonja in the centre. Honey and carnival mark the town calendar.
The visit needs a whole day: hill and parishes in the morning, with castle and Santa María above and Asunción below, and Castellar de Meca by car in the afternoon. The 1892 modernist Lonja, in the centre, completes the walk.
