Coll de Rates
A 628 m pass on the CV-715 between Ferrer and Carrascar, dividing the Marinas, with a roadside viewpoint.
Coll de Rates is a 628 m mountain pass on the CV-715, between the Ferrer mountains to the east and the Carrascar de Parcent range to the west. It forms the physical divide between the Marina Alta to the north and the Marina Baixa to the south, in the province of Alicante. At the top there is a roadside viewpoint with lay-bys, a classic stop of the cycling climb and of drivers crossing between Parcent and Tàrbena. You arrive from Calp or Guadalest along mountain roads, about 100 minutes from València, with a typical visit of one hour.
The viewpoint
From the lay-bys you see both slopes: the inland valleys towards Parcent and the drop towards the Marina Baixa. Views are cleanest after rain, when the air is washed. It is a photo and rest stop, not a hike: there is no verified signed trail of its own from the pass.
Visit notices
Park only in the lay-bys, never on the bend hard shoulder: this is a road with many cyclists and weekend traffic. Respect cyclists on the climb and never overtake them on bends. There are no services or water at the top: bring what you need and leave no litter at the viewpoint.
