Cruz Cubierta
Stone cross under a canopy on the old roads of Jérica. A piece of Valencian Gothic popular architecture.
The Cruz Cubierta of Jérica is a stone cross sheltered by a small canopy, on the old roads of the village. It is a piece of Valencian Gothic popular architecture, raised to mark crossroads and bless travellers.
The work
The carved stone cross rises on a shaft and steps beneath a four-pillar canopy with a roof. The whole, plain and well proportioned, ranks among the best kept of its kind in the district. The canopy shields the stone from rain and sun, which is why the carving survives in good state.
What to see
It is seen on a walk stop, with free access. Pair it with the climb to the castle and the Tower of the Bells, in the old centre.
- Note the carving of the cross and the canopy pillars.
