In the centre of Villena, the José María Soler Archaeology Museum holds the Villena Treasure, among the most important prehistoric goldsmith groups in Europe: almost 10 kilos of gold and about 600 grams of silver from the Bronze Age, found in 1963.

History

The treasure turned up in 1963 and named the museum, founded in 1957 by the archaeologist José María Soler. The collections cover the district's archaeology from prehistory onward.

What to see

The Treasure, with its bracelets, bowls and gold sceptre, anchors the rooms. Around it are ordered the materials of local settlement since the Middle Palaeolithic, documented in the area.
