Nacimiento del río Palancia

The source of the Palancia river lies in a narrow canyon in El Toro municipality, on the boundary with Bejís, in the Alto Palancia. The river rises between rock walls and forms a gorge that carries abundant water only part of the year.

The PR-CV 275 route

The classic access is the PR-CV 275 Fuentes del Palancia trail, which starts at the Los Cloticos recreational area, in Bejís. The path crosses the river toward the Los Cloticos spring, valued for the quality of its water, and continues west to El Molinar. From there it climbs toward the forest ranger house, crosses the Resinero ravine and follows the Palancia up to the canyon where the river is born, a stretch you walk if the water level allows.

The full circular route from Los Cloticos totals about 16.6 km with some 457 m of ascent, of moderate difficulty, and takes about 5 hours of walking. The narrows and the source form a flora and fauna microreserve: respect the area and stay on the path. In the same valley you can link up with the Salto de la Novia route or visit another spring, the source of the Tuéjar river.

Tips for your visit

• Carry enough water and wear mountain footwear: there are no springs on the upper stretch.
• Avoid the narrow riverbed after heavy rain or in spate.
• Spring is the best season, when the gorge carries water.
• You can only get there by car, as far as the Los Cloticos area.
