Altea sits about 101 km from Valencia on a hill over its bay. The Consuelo church crowns the whitewashed old quarter with tiled domes, one known as the dome of the Mediterranean, and a square viewpoint over the water. Below it, El Fornet keeps stretches of the old walls along stepped sea-view lanes.

The town guarded its coast with two watchtowers, Galera listed (BIC): Bellaguarda on the hillside and Galera on the shoreline road toward Calp. By the port, the Museo del Mar covers fishing traditions, and at Altea Hills the Russian-style Orthodox church, described as the first Orthodox temple built in Spain, rises among pines.

Plan one full day: old quarter and towers in the morning, port, promenade and Museo del Mar in the afternoon, with the Orthodox church as a car detour. Start at the church square and walk down to the port afterwards. The two towers and the old walls give the town its defensive profile above the bay.
