Jérica, about 52 km from Valencia in the Alto Palancia, is a village of 1,764 residents clustered below a rocky ridge, on the corridor between the coast and Aragón. Its skyline is set by the rock castle and the free-standing brick tower.

The castle, with La Torreta and wall remains, crowns the ridge with views over the Palancia. Below, the Tower of the Bells, a free-standing 1634 Mudejar tower unique in the Valencian Community, is climbed by guided visit. The Gothic Cruz Cubierta marks the old roads and the Convento del Socorro, of Gothic-Baroque fabric, completes the old centre. The village also keeps a municipal museum and a parish museum, and celebrates Santa Águeda every 5 February. The Santa Águeda church, with its black marble front, and the 1385 palace-house complete the old centre beside the museums. The village, Castilian-speaking inland, looks over the Palancia corridor between the coast and Aragón. Santa Águeda, on 5 February, is the big winter festivity.
