Barranc de l'Encantada
4 km ravine walk in Planes past scented scrub and limestone walls to natural pools that the town hall notes for summer bathing.
The Barranc de l'Encantada is a natural beauty spot with an intermittent watercourse that starts at Les Rotges, where the Gleda and Les Rotges ravines meet between Planes and the Vall d'Alcalá. After 14 km across the north-east of the Planes term it joins the Serpis river, protected as a landscape since 2007.
The walk
A 4 km stroll along the ravine crosses Mediterranean scented plants and characteristic woodland between limestone walls: the Sierra Albureca on the right bank and the Senabre and Cantalar heights on the left. Flow changes with the seasons and peaks in autumn, when the area records most of its rain. In summer the waters shape a chain of natural pools where, the town hall notes, you can bathe.
Swimming and safety
Bathing is seasonal here: summer pools for a dip, autumn water for watching the flow. Rocks around the pools are slippery, so wear footwear with grip and never jump into unknown water. You need a car to reach Planes. The ravine pairs well with the nearby Vall de Laguar and its Barranc de l'Infern walk.
